Enjoying the National Landscape
The stunning landscapes of the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley have attracted visitors for hundreds of years. From magnificent peaks to wooded valleys and dramatic scenery in between, it’s the perfect backdrop to a host of outdoor activities such as walking, cycling and water sports.
The history of the people who lived and worked in the area can be seen in the wealth of heritage attractions; explore our chain of Iron-Age hillforts, dare to cross the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, experience the tranquillity at Valle Crucis Abbey, and see for yourself why Castell Dinas Brân and Chirk Castle made such effective defences.
We are proud of the habitats that we conserve and enhance for our wildlife. We can offer you the rare and the beautiful, from birds such as the tree pipit and the black grouse to flora such as orchids and Autumn Gentian. Come to discover, enjoy and maybe even help them to survive.
Our towns and villages are the heartbeat of the National Landscape. Each has its own distinct Welsh character and a variety of shops, cafes and restaurants where you can sample artisan food and drink, made locally. Look out for traditional events, such as eisteddfodau and country shows that still today reflect the close relationship between people and the land.
Planning a visit couldn’t be easier with our helpful tips on ways to explore the National Landscape, whether it is travelling, parking or places to stay.
